Cloudy pond water, low oxygen levels, and excess organic waste are signs of a water system out of balance.
WaterBlocs MULTI-BLOCS are a natural biological water treatment that restores that balance using beneficial bacteria to consume the waste, ammonia, and nutrients causing the problem.
One 200g bloc treats up to 1,000 litres of water or 4m² of water surface area. Suitable for ponds, dams, aquariums, lakes, and fountains in both fresh and saltwater environments.
What Are WaterBlocs?
WaterBlocs are a specially formulated porous mineral substrate containing multiple nutrients that promote the rapid growth of beneficial bacteria when immersed in aquatic water systems.
Once submerged, naturally occurring beneficial bacteria colonise the porous substrate and the zeolite particles within it.
These bacteria produce enzymes that break down organic waste, ammonia, and unwanted nutrients — the primary causes of cloudy water and depleted oxygen levels in ponds, aquariums, and dams.
WaterBlocs are suitable for both fresh and saltwater systems where fish, turtles, plants, pets, and other aquatic organisms live.
Key Benefits
- Clears cloudy water naturally — no harsh chemicals required
- Reduces organic waste and ammonia that deplete oxygen and threaten aquatic life
- Suitable for ponds, dams, lakes, aquariums, and fountains
- Works in both fresh and saltwater environments
- Reduces the frequency of water changes in fish tanks and aquariums
- Safe for fish, turtles, plants, and other aquatic life
- Slowly biodegrades, leaving only a natural zeolite residue that is beneficial to soils and harmless to the marine environment
- Dose ponds and lakes at the start of each season for ongoing water clarity
How WaterBlocs Work
WaterBlocs use a unique atomic microcellular structure that maximises the surface area available for bacterial colonisation.
As bacteria establish themselves within the bloc, they begin producing enzymes that digest the organic matter responsible for poor water quality.
Depending on placement within the water column, WaterBlocs support both aerobic bacteria in the oxygenated upper layers and anaerobic bacteria in the oxygen-depleted lower layers where toxic conditions are most harmful to aquatic life.
Best results are achieved when:
- Water temperature is 15°C or above
- pH is approximately 7.0
- Aeration maintains dissolved oxygen at 3ppm or higher
Directions for Use
Place WaterBlocs underwater in an area with gentle or no water flow every three months.
Allow several weeks for large populations of beneficial bacteria to develop fully within the porous mineral substrate.
By application type:
- Aquariums — totally or partially bury WaterBlocs in aquarium gravel
- Ponds & lakes — apply to the bottom or float near the surface
- Fountains — place in the water reservoir or an area of low turbulence
- Sludge treatment — place directly in the sludge layer to stimulate anaerobic bacteria that consume organic waste
Recommended Dosage
Increase dosages for stagnant water, aquatic systems with large amounts of organic waste, or problem areas.
- 10g Aquarium-Bloc — one bloc per 25L of water, or per 0.2m² of surface area
- 20g Mini-Bloc — one bloc per 50L–100L of water, or per 0.4m² of surface area
- 100g Pond-Bloc — one bloc per 500L of water, or per 2m² of surface area
- 200g Multi-Bloc — one bloc per 1,000L of water, or per 4m² of surface area
- 1.2kg Maxi-Bloc — one bloc per 5,000L of water, or per 20m² of surface area
- 6kg Mega-Bloc — one bloc per 200,000L of water
For larger water volumes, refer to the Lakes & Dams dosage guidance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a WaterBloc and how does it work?
A WaterBloc is a porous mineral substrate that promotes the rapid growth of beneficial bacteria when placed in water. The bacteria produce enzymes that consume organic waste and ammonia — the main causes of cloudy water and low oxygen levels in ponds and aquariums.
Is WaterBlocs safe for fish and aquatic life?
Yes. WaterBlocs are safe for fish, turtles, plants, pets, and other aquatic organisms in both fresh and saltwater systems. The natural treatment process does not introduce any harmful chemicals.
How often do I need to apply WaterBlocs?
WaterBlocs should be applied every three months. For ponds and lakes, dose at the start of each season for ongoing water clarity.
How long before I see results?
Allow several weeks for large populations of beneficial bacteria to develop fully. Results depend on water temperature, pH, and oxygen levels — optimal conditions are 15°C or above, pH 7.0, and dissolved oxygen at 3ppm or higher.
Can WaterBlocs be used in saltwater aquariums?
Yes. WaterBlocs are suitable for both fresh and saltwater aquatic environments.
What happens when a WaterBloc fully biodegrades?
WaterBlocs slowly biodegrade over time, leaving only a natural zeolite residue. This residue is beneficial to soils and harmless to the marine environment.
